Antique Japanese civilian mounted sword, overall length is 39.1/2" . the blade is 24.1/4" to the notch. the blade has been over cleaned but the lines not altered , it has no edge nicks, bends or cracks. it does have some very minor forging lines. the grain can be easily seen as well as the hamon. the un-signed tang with 2 holes , double copper habaki. the handle has good same' and tight black binding, matched menuki of flowers, the kashira is copper with insect design and the fuchi is copper with remains of silver wash. the iron tsuba has fans to each side. black lacquered wood saya with a leather combat cover and one hanger and
copper band to strengthen the opening. the blade looks to be shinto and would improve greatly with a clean up , overall a good example of a older blade that would have been used during WW2
