Antique Japanese civilian mounted sword, overall length is 39.1/4" . the blade is 25.1/2" to the notch. it is a heavy thick blade with depth at the habaki 34mm, and thickness back edge is 7.5mm it is still 6.5mm 1" back from the tip. the blade has no bends , flaws, openings and only one very minor edge nic under 1mm. polish is about 80% and the hamon is visible along both sides and around the tip. grain is also visible. only some fine scratching and some staining and in one spot there is pitting close to the edge , this is not deep and minor. copper habaki and 2 seppa. The un-signed tang has 3 holes . original handle has 90% complete same' and tight black binding, menuki are matching 70mm long dragons and the fuchi-kashira are iron with curled up dragons and a cloud. Nice old iron tsuba with fan shaped cut outs . black lacquered wood saya with a leather combat cover and one hanger. the blade looks to be shinto and would improve greatly with a clean up , overall a good example of a older blade that would have been used during WW2.
