Japanese Samurai Armor
Edo Period
This is a good quality edo period Samurai armor. It dates to
the late 1700's. The Kabuto is a 16 plate russet iron
kabuto with very nice detail and very good quality. It has the
original lining and neck cord. The maedate is a lacquered wood
modern one that suits the set well.
The Hanbo, or mask is a dark brown lacquered iron one with lacquered
iron neck lames. The 'Do' is a dark brown lacquered iron
plates with outside parts done in gold lacquer. The laced
plates that hang from it are lacquered rawhide with iron splint
behind.
The Sode, or shoulder guards are lacquered iron and proberbly a
later addition to the armor, they go well with the suit.
The Kote are lacquered metal plates over chain mail and backed with
heavy fabric. The shin guards are lacquered metal plates over
chain mail and backed with heavy fabric. One has minor damage
that could be repaired ok. The thigh apron has lacquered laced
rawhide plates on fabric. The armor box is in average condition with
iron edges, carry handles and lock. It is still strong and
suitable to display the armor on.
Overall a matching set of Samurai Armor that dates to
the mid Edo period and is in good condition with only a couple of
minor breaks to the lacing (which is usual for armor of this
age). It is very well made and of a high quality. It has
had no restoration The armor comes with a Japanese made stand
to display it on.
